Care for people whose work carries real weight

Saga Health & Wellness provides individual therapy for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, attorneys, and executives navigating burnout, moral injury, and the cumulative strain of high-stakes work.

Dr. Soffia Palsdottir, Psy.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist who has spent her career inside medicine, not outside it. Sessions are available in person in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and by telehealth for clients in Massachusetts and Arizona.

Who this is for

Physicians

Burnout, moral injury, patient loss, medical errors, and decisions about whether to stay in medicine.

Therapy for Physicians →

Nurses and healthcare providers

Nurses, advanced practice clinicians, and mental health professionals who absorb others' distress for a living, often with little say over the conditions they work in.

Attorneys

Adversarial pressure, billable-hour demands, and responsibility for outcomes that matter deeply to clients, in a profession that rarely makes room for doubt.

Executives and leaders

Roles that isolate, decisions that affect many people, and very few places to be honest about the cost.

Burnout and moral injury are not the same thing

Burnout

Burnout is exhaustion, detachment, and reduced effectiveness that develop from chronic workplace stress. Rest, boundaries, and changes in workload help.

Moral injury

Moral injury is the distress of being unable to act on what you believe is right: working in systems that block good care or fair outcomes, or witnessing harm you couldn't prevent. It often shows up as guilt, anger, shame, or a loss of meaning in work you once loved. Rest alone doesn't resolve it, because the wound is about values, not fatigue.

The term comes from work with clinicians and service members, and it fits healthcare most directly. Attorneys and leaders often recognize it too, as the strain of carrying out decisions they don't believe in.

Many professionals experience both. Telling them apart matters, because they call for different work.

Why work with Dr. Palsdottir

  • Four years at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, working across oncology specialties alongside physicians and care teams in one of medicine's most demanding settings
  • Chief Clinical Psychologist and Director of Training at a multi-site mental health center, where she built a postdoctoral residency program and trained clinicians
  • Author for Psychology Today on the experiences of providers in oncology Read the article →
  • Licensed clinical psychologist in Massachusetts and Arizona

She understands high-performance cultures from the inside: the unspoken rules about competence, the stigma around asking for help, and why "just practice self-care" can land as an insult.

About Dr. Palsdottir →

How we work

Practical relief matters, and so does understanding why the work has come to cost so much. Therapy addresses both.

01

Stabilize.

Sleep, irritability, dread, and the sense of running on empty.

02

Understand.

Perfectionism, over-responsibility, and an identity built around never faltering.

03

Work through it.

The grief, guilt, and anger tied to specific events or systems.

04

Decide.

Whether to stay, change how you work, or leave, with clarity rather than collapse.

Our approach is depth-oriented and psychodynamic, informed by trauma-focused care. We look beneath symptoms, not just at them.

Frequently asked questions

Is therapy confidential for licensed professionals?

Confidentiality and licensing questions are reviewed at your first session. Because Saga is private-pay and independent, nothing is shared with an insurer or employer unless you choose to submit a superbill or authorize a release.

What's the difference between burnout and moral injury?

Burnout is exhaustion from chronic workplace stress and tends to improve with rest and workload changes. Moral injury is distress from being unable to act on your values, and it usually needs direct attention to the events or conditions behind it.

What's the difference between burnout and depression?

Burnout is tied to work and often eases with distance from it. Depression tends to persist across all areas of life. They overlap frequently, and an evaluation helps sort out which you're facing.

Do I need to be in crisis to start therapy?

No. Many clients come in while still functioning well outwardly, because they notice the cost is rising.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, for clients located in Massachusetts or Arizona at the time of the session.

If you are in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or call 911.
